Courtyard Gardens
Two sad Islington spaces were transformed into little oases of planting and pleasure for their owners. The first, a really tiny space, approx 4m square and with a conservatory taking up part of the space, became a spiritual garden for yoga practice. A little tinkling water feature masks the ambient traffic noise and helps to create a haven of tranquillity.
The second, a little larger but narrowing to the rear, is long and thin. The client owned a rusty arbour (see it in pieces in the ‘before’ image) and this is used as a centrepiece for the new garden. Honeysuckle now grows up it and the path running through it is cobbled with a star shaped mosaic beneath the arbour. A sunny seat at the rear of the garden is a focus and the wall behind hides storage and compost bins.
